The scientific name for periwinkle, Vinca minor. L Vinca Minor

is written on the back.

This plant, native to Southern Europe, has naturalized in Japan and is sometimes called a "plant you shouldn't plant."

That's because it has too much vitality and spreads too much, causing problems...

It's also poisonous, so it's a lovely but tricky plant.

Is anyone out there struggling with having planted it?

To tell you the truth, I have some at the edge of my garden, but it hasn't spread so much that it's a problem. I wonder if it spreads more easily in Japan's climate.

To prevent it from spreading too much, you should continue to prune it diligently.

This is the first time I've seen a gardening website that talks about tips for removal, rather than how to grow or propagate it. It says you either use herbicide, or if you don't want to use it, you patiently pull out the roots over several years.

Such harsh words...

Don't be discouraged, Vinca minor!
