キアロスクーロ!🪄

Chiaroscuro! 🪄

The expression of light and shadow, and contrast in art.
Chiaroscuro is an Italian word that refers to light and shadow in art.
Chiaroscuro. Chiaroscuro.
It sounds like an incantation when spoken aloud, which I find interesting.

When it comes to paintings with impressive contrasts of light and shadow, famous names like Rembrandt and Rubens probably come to mind.
Caravaggio (1571-1610) is said to have influenced their paintings.
Through him, the expression of light and shadow developed dramatically.
This man. The chiaroscuro of his own life was also dramatically impactful.
From what I've read, he seemed to be a ruffian, a rogue, someone you wouldn't want to get involved with if you desired a peaceful life.

The art he left behind, and the mistakes and crimes he committed.
It cannot be simply divided into good or evil.
It cannot be separated into right or wrong.
Such is a part of human nature.
In his paintings, he masterfully controlled the contrast of light and shadow.
On the other hand, the chaos of his life's very essence was truly astounding.

Since the end of last year, I've been peering into the abyss. And I'm still peering. LOL.
Is it the long, dark winter that makes me do this?
That said, I won't be starting yoga or meditation.
However, if you stay in the darkness for a long time, you're bound to notice even the smallest light.
Chiaroscuro! 🪄🧙🪄
