Julius Eduard Braunsdorf
1841 Niederfähre near Meissen – 1922 Meissen
German watercolorist and porcelain painter. After completing his apprenticeship at the Meissen Porcelain Manufactory, he worked there as a flower painter from 1858 to 1862. As early as 1861, he was awarded a prize for his first major work. In 1862, he presented some of his designs at the London World's Fair. From 1880, he worked as a drawing teacher, and in 1900, he was appointed professor at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts. Braunsdorf developed a painterly style characterized by soft transitions and subtle color nuances from the main motif to the background. His style revolutionized Meissen flower painting and was imitated many times.
